Winter Solstice may be a significant day in many cultures and many celebrations. For example:-
– there are a number of astronimcal calcultions based surrounding Stonehenge
– in Japanese Mythology, they celebrate their Sun Goddess (Amaterasu). They believe the other gods make a loud celebration in order to make Amaterasu come out of her cave. She peeks out, sees her image in a mirror, and the other gods convince her to stay out of the cave; thereby restoring sunlight to the world.
– Norway celebrate Beiwa the sun-goddess of fertility and sanity. She travels through the sky in a structure made of reindeer bones with her daughter, Beiwe-Neia, to herald back the greenery on which the reindeer feed.
