Take a look at this video, it appeared on the social media accounts of Freefly Systems. Whether this is real or not, it teases us into what we might see in the not too distant future as drones become bigger and stronger.

The drone filmed in this video is a Freefly Alta 8 and is designed to carry a payload of 9kg, it also carries a price tag of about US $18000. Figuratively speaking, a drone with this much power could pull the weight of a surfer/wake boarder if they had a running start, it’s just the water starts after a fall being the issue. Still, it’s a cool concept and opens up options on a flat day… or, even tow-ins on a big day…

The Gold Coast copped a hammering from a band of storms mid afternoon, causing wide spread blackouts from the Northern suburbs of Helensvale and Coomera right down to Surfers Paradise. Many businesses closed due to flooding and the roads had all come to a crawl in most suburbs due to heavy rain.

More storms are predicted with heavy rain and the chance of hail so best keep your car undercover and away from trees and power lines. Don’t forget to tie down any loose items as well that could be caught in the strong winds.

Pumice stones have begun washing-up along Gold Coast beaches in the past two days after an underwater volcano off the coast of New Zealand erupted creating the largest pumice raft seen in 50 years.

The buoyant, white stones are littered across beaches along the east coast of Australia and the best place to look for the rock is along the line of high tide.

Gold Coasters were among many Australians to find the stones at the coast yesterday.

The volcanic eruption created a 20,000 sq km raft which eventually spread roughly 4 million sq km while it broke up, although the stones did not travel as far as Swiss exchange student Lena Rubitschung did to get to the Gold Coast.

More than four months after his NRL season ended in agony in the Newcastle mud, the Titans centre will go under a surgeon’s knife again tomorrow in the final steps of recovery.

Idris, who broke a bone in his lower leg, dislocated his ankle and tore ligaments in a horror injury while playing against the Knights in June, will have arthroscopic surgery on his knee to remove a cyst and have a minor clean-out.

For many, it would be another crushing setback.

Idris, though, who completed his first ball session of the season on Monday after getting the all-clear from medical staff, can see the silver lining.

The operation will be minor after the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee repaired itself, preventing a reconstruction that could have ruled him out of the first two months of the season.
