Bouyancy is important. When you plan to stand on the water with a paddle in your hand you will tend to need something wide to keep you stable, wide like this, wow what a beauty!

Good day for a board like this too with conditions clean early and some light Westerly winds. The Southerly winds should come on through later in the day and with them should come some bigger swell.

A cold start to the day with temps hovering around 5-6 deg at sunrise. The swell had only picked up marginally over night but hopefully should increase throughout the remainder of the week.

Rainbow Bay put on a welcoming Morning, once again beautiful clear skies and nice little waves rolling in. There weren’t too many waves about but for those that were out there, I’m sure they got their quota. It was a longboard morning with the waves that were caught, providing decent lasting rides.

Do you remember the first time you ever went out for your first surf?

Little Lillian here had her first surf today… not the best day to start surfing being quite cold and rainy at Rainbow Bay but according to Lillian, the miserable weather was not going to stop her from taking the plunge. She began by performing a  few dance moves (pre surf jitters me thinks) while practicing how to stand. She was on a big 8 1′ so when she did get out on the water all it took was around 4-5 attempts and Lillian was riding her first waves into the shore.

She is now hassling Dad for a new board of her own.

Learning to surf at Rainbow Bay

Easter, so far, looks like conditions will continue as they currently are…awesome. Days are magnificent, surf is great, and we have four days off work to look forward to (well most do) of similar conditions. Of course the weather forecasters are giving a chance of rain (and there may well be) but I’m sure some showers will do little to hinder the rest of the conditions.

With a board this nice I would think twice about jumping off there too

I just dig the colours in the waves of a morning. When the Sun shines from behind and glistens through a wave as it does in these photos, well it just has a magic quality about it. Clean and crisp on the surface hiding the raw power within, its no wonder the sport is so loved.
