The Urban Paradise Gallery in conjunction with Save our Spit are proud to announce the Inaugural Save our Spit Photographic and Art Show depicting what it is that the Broadwater means to you.

The Urban Paradise Art Gallery in the Galleria, Surfers Paradise Boulevard is hosting the inaugural Save our Spit Photographic and Art show from the 6th December 2014 to the 6th January 2015 as part of the program to speak out against development in the public open space of the Broadwater and the Spit.

Artists are invited to submit their works to be included in the art exhibition to the Gallery which is in aid of Save our Spit.

Steve Gration the President of Save our Spit said “this is a great opportunity to showcase the beauty of the Broadwater and Spit.”
“All people young and old who value the Broadwater and the Spit are invited to bring their photos and artwork along for display. I implore you to be involved so we can showcase to the holidaying public and the world the area that the current council and government seem determined to destroy.” he said.

There is an entry fee for Artwork; A4 and below $5 greater than A4 and sculpture $10/piece
All artwork must be ready to hang.
The gallery is offering two prizes for the winning entries!
Photographs and artworks entered are in the running to win the first prize of $150 for the people’s choice and $250 for the Save our Spit prize.

Artists are also encouraged to put a price on their works if they wish to sell them with 15% going to Save our Spit and 15% going to the community gallery.

Entries close at 3pm on Friday 5th December, with works to be delivered to the Urban Paradise Gallery from 10am the 3rd December.

Strolling the point

Early surf is the go unless you hit the spit later as there will be a Northerly blowing, other than that there probably won’t be too much doing on the swell front. It may increase a little through the day but the wind will hurt it. Even if you don’t make if for a surf today its still worth getting out and soaking up some of the Sun but cover up as it is hot….. chance of a storm again too.

Warm and sultry, morning clouds, still air and stormy forecast for the afternoon which came true. It’s been warm and you can feel Summer just around the corner…. you can also tell by the lack of swell at the moment… BUT, we know it only takes a bit of Natures best to get things moving for us. So it’s just a matter of waiting out this period and hopefully we get a bit early next week.

A few seconds was all it took before they were all aver my arm

Pulled up at Greenmount again as I thought it would be nice to wander around in the Sun. Rested on the railing you see here, right where all this commotion was going on (I was too intent on the outlook). In a matter of seconds what seemed like a hundred of these things were doing the runner up my arm (shoulda seen my moves as I shook them off)!

Anyway, got rid of them all and grabbed some pics from the outlook as well

It is a lovely day on the Gold Coast today. Nice and Sunny, warm, but only a little wave trickling through. Surf-able though and a few people out making the most of the clean conditions along the shore. I actually saw perfect little A frames lining up, if only they were just that little bit bigger…. again

Kudos to all willing to surf these conditions

When the weather turns foul as in this case, with wind and rain, it generally leads to chilling out and grabbing a vid or watching some footy. Usually however, bad weather means good surf!

Over the weekend the winds were up, a fair bit of rain and in most places the surf pumping. It was messy at the open beaches with only wind protected points giving some joy, but it is kudos to those willing to get out and surf in these conditions cause it has been big. We sat at Burleigh point for a while and watched. Several dudes jumped in at the cove and were hammered, wave after wave, found themselves swept north, only to finally pull the pin and make back for the shore. For those few that did make it out, hats off.

Hope you guys had a good surf.
