Looking Nth to Surfers. Waves are small but clean with a few of the crew just starting to arrive

 

Dawn at Burleigh heads. A beautiful Morning just slightly overcast to start, however tipped to be a nice day on the way. Small, below average and inconsistent waves out there at the moment but nice to get out for a walk or exercise, and there are a number of groups out here doing just that

Surf: about halfa metre…. and average

Water temp: about 20

Wind: Next to nothing at the moment but bound to blow Northly later… and over the next few days

 

 

 

 

 

 

Many of the beaches on the Gold Coast have been closed… boo!

But the surf has been awesome (at the points anyway), yay!. It’s been a pretty good time for surfers, if your up to the task that is, but if you are and you don’t mind a bit of a crowd, then you have probably been having the time of your life lately. However, it is hard to get a wave to yourself on days like this, with great swell but only firing on the points, everyone it seems is trying to get in on the action….at the points! Is it time for the artificial reefs?

How do we overcome the issue of over crowding?

We have seen a lot of people at the points lately, some aggression, and a lot of close calls…. pretty hard to surf around a hundred heads bobbing up on your wave. There is plenty of talk about the artificial reefs at the moment, as well as wave pools, implemented right this could be a boon for the surfing industry, done poorly, and it could be detrimental to the environment.

There are plenty pros and cons for both sides, but until the solution is found one way or the other, just chill and be careful out there. Surfing is meant to be enjoyable.

 

 

Always a good spot to park yourself for a day at the beach (just get here early on a nice day to get a park!) as there is the esplanade with bbq areas and playgrounds, and very well laid out access to the beach. Here you see the access from 4th Ave next to the patrolled swimming section supervised by the Lifesavers making it popular with families. Most access points have showers and fresh water for drinking with 4th Ave having easily accessible male and female toilets. Nice views to the South of Burleigh and then North to Miami and Surfers Paradise round off this little part of the World.

Generally there are couple of banks for the surfers just North and South of this access point and, mostly hold up well for the Mornings but deteriorate in the afternoon. Usually a good fun wave and not normally crowded.

 

 

 

 

 

The swell was up but for very experienced surfers only, so, when that’s the case and you need a bit of excitement what do you do?

You find all the red plastic you can get your hands on and set up one big-ass soapy slide to get your fix. Ha, this looked like so much fun, a lot of the crowd were ready to join in.

Looking at the Hot Air Balloons and wondering just how nice the Gold Coast would have looked from up there…. on a day like today quite spectacular I imagine.

Surf wise, looks like it is going to be a little in the smaller range for a few days but Santa might deliver a few sets for us… Hopefully along with a new stick!

Early surf is the go unless you hit the spit later as there will be a Northerly blowing, other than that there probably won’t be too much doing on the swell front. It may increase a little through the day but the wind will hurt it. Even if you don’t make if for a surf today its still worth getting out and soaking up some of the Sun but cover up as it is hot….. chance of a storm again too.
